Salzburg in a Different Way – Gorges Instead of Festivals

A classic city tour in Salzburg? Hearing more stories about Mozart and the festivals? Sure, you can do that. But you don’t have to – especially if you’ve heard it all many times before.

If you want to experience Salzburg differently, swap cobblestones for crystal-clear water and Old Town views for wild gorges. This is where your canyoning adventure begins – in the middle of nature, just a short distance from Salzburg.

And then? Then it gets wet. Really wet.

Into the Water – Your Introduction to Canyoning

It all starts in Golling, where you meet your guide and get equipped with everything you need for canyoning: wetsuit, helmet, harness – and a little bit of courage. Depending on the tour, you’ll either drive your own car or continue comfortably in a van toward the starting point – even the journey makes it clear: today, you’re experiencing Salzburg in a different way.

Fully equipped like a pro and after a relaxed safety briefing, you’re ready for your first encounter with the element of water.

Canyoning in Salzburg – Jumping, Sliding, Abseiling

Now it gets exciting. You’ll encounter natural water slides, jumps from different heights, and swimming passages in between. Sometimes calm, sometimes action-packed – this mix is exactly what makes canyoning in Salzburg so special.

Depending on the chosen experience, beginners can ease into it step by step, while more advanced participants can go straight for more action: one gorge offers moderate jumps of around 1.5 to 8 meters – perfect for trying canyoning or enjoying it at a relaxed pace. The other takes things up a notch, with up to 17 jump sections and heights of up to 10 meters.

The best part: you decide. Every jump is optional. If you don’t want to jump, you simply abseil instead. This keeps the experience flexible and turns it into a real “choose your own adventure.”

Nature Cinema in the Water – Salzburg’s Landscape Reimagined

While moving through the gorges, nature reveals its most spectacular side. You slide over smooth rock formations, dive into crystal-clear pools, and suddenly find yourself standing beneath a roaring waterfall.

At times, it gets narrow – really narrow. High rock walls close in, letting in barely any light. And just moments later, the gorge opens again, sunlight hits the water, and everything feels almost unreal in its calmness. These contrasts are exactly what make canyoning in Salzburg an unforgettable experience.

A Wet Adventure You Won’t Forget

Canyoning in Salzburg is not something you simply “do.” It’s something you experience – with all your senses. With a racing heart before the jump and a wide smile afterwards.

So if you want to see Salzburg differently – not from above, but right in the middle of the water – then this adventure is exactly right for you.

And honestly: after that, even the Old Town feels a little different.
