In the middle of the shopping street: Why you should not miss the historic Sebastiansfriedhof

Behind a narrow portal in the bustling Linz alley lies a place that looks more like Florence than Austria: the Sebastiansfriedhof. In the style of an Italian Campo Santo, the court is lined with open arcades. Not only Mozart’s father Leopold is buried here, but also the famous physician and alchemist Paracelsus. The most spectacular building stands in the middle of the courtyard: the Gabriel's Chapel, the circular grand mausoleum for Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich, completely lined with thousands of glazed Renaissance tiles.

Insider tip: Look through the wrought iron grid into the interior of the Gabriel Chapel – the mosaic of colored ceramic tiles is almost unique in Central Europe.
